Creating my Website Part 3

On Part 1 the last step I showed in my process of making my website was logging in to the WordPress builder that's been installed into my webspace to start building my website.

After you click the green Login button circled below you should be taken to a WordPress login page

The first time I did this however I came across problems. Clicking on the Login button didn't take me to the WordPress log in page and instead when trying to take me to the louisloveless.co.uk URL a Wix page came up saying: "This Wix site isn't connected properly". I found out that the issue was despite me moving the Host IP codes to Wordpress, not all of them had been removed off of the Wix servers, so I had to request they get removed and then wait 48 hours so that WordPress was the only site builder that was in control of my Host IP codes. Once this was done I tried again and was taken to the correct WordPress log in page.

You log in with a one-time username and a temporary password given to you on first creation of the website, once you have logged in to your WordPress Web builder app the first time you are warned to change your password for security reasons and your username becomes "admin" followed by your URL, so for example my one was "admin@louisloveless.co.uk"

Once you have logged into the WordPress site builder, you are taken to this page:

This is your WordPress site builder Dashboard, where you build your physical website, and later on where you come to make changes to your finished website.

The first thing I did was install a ready made Theme, as this was something I didn't do the first time I tried using WordPress. To do this I clicked on Themes then Add a Theme and was taken to a page that lists all available WordPress themes.

I Installed one called Drape as it looked most similar to the clean, plain websites I had seen in the artist websites I looked at earlier on. This is an example of how the theme would look once some media had been added.

I installed this onto my WordPress Dashboard, thus putting a page onto my hosting space. The next step is to customize this theme, adding your text, photos, videos, menus, pages, everything you want on your site. You are free to do this with WordPress's own customizing app, you simply click the big button on the homepage that says Customize My Site.

However I read that it can be quite cumbersome and difficult, and that WordPress supports third-party apps that can be installed right into your WordPress site-builder that make the whole process much more intuitive, steamlined, and visual, which is better for someone like me who needs to see visually the changes I'm making to my site, instead of dealing with code etc. The third-party app most recommended was one called Elementor. If you click Plug-Ins on the Dashboard it takes you to a list of Plug-Ins installed on your WordPress.

This is where you can search for a new Plug-In, i.e one to help you in building your site, this is where I searched for Elementor.

Clicking on the top option opens a menu which allows you to download the Plug-In and get started building your site using it.
